Topic:  Early demo production
* Posted by Xiaoth Sunday 18 September 2005 - 4:02
For whatever reason, I have been consistently assuming that "party demos" are demos that are produced in a dizzying hurry in a two or three day time slot. Only recently did I realize that party demos are simply demos that were RELEASED at a party--kind of like independent films at the Sundance Festival in North America.

Is it normal or commonplace for sceners to submit party entries (music, graphics, demos, whatever) that they made (but never released) before the party? even months before? or years?

Is that ever considered cheating? Or is it pretty much everything goes, as long as it's never been released?

Or does every party have its own set of rules?

some groups start working on a demo for a specific party one whole year before or something.
so, no it aint "illegal" in any way :)

those partydemos you originally considered also exist (made entirely at partyplace) we just usally call them fastdemos instead of partydemos..

Heya,

I've been hunting around for an answer to the same question, so it's cool that I found it here :)

So, for pre-prepared demo entries, does any of the coding at all happen at the parties? or do people tend to turn up with the demos ready to go, and pretty much just show them off and socialise?

It varies from groups to groups. Certain manage to have everything ready by the party, others like (or have) to work together at the party place to assemble the whole thing together.
