Topic:  Mod 4CH composer required
* Posted by Crs27 Thursday 2 February 2006 - 15:54
Greets,

I am soon to finish a GBA game I have been working on for the past couple of years (yes Im talking less than a week to "complete completion" ;) )

The music I have in game at the moment is place holder music I found from old archives so I am not wanting to use it. My mod player is not the best in the world but it just about does the trick - although the speed is not quite right yet. I haven't implemented many effects (just stuff like volume slide and pattern break / jump)

I am just looking for people's interest at the moment. Anyone up for creating 4 CH mods?

Genre of game is rolling ball puzzle game, maybe think marble madness (but top down NOT iso) - with things like jump pads and crushers, heaps of stuff.

Required number of tracks, 5 ingame, 1 menu, 1 intro, 1 ending. (I can adjust code so samples could use the same sample bank if needed)

So - any interest in this? I'll get more in to this and release more info and some screenies if so.

Thanks for reading.

Crs.

Hey, I'm a musician/composer interested in your offer. I have already composed several 4ch mods in xm/it format. If you're still looking, I can write new mods specifically for your game in any format you desire. I compose any/all styles of music and will do my best to develop something that suits the game well.
Will there be any financial reward? Email me back at jvk@army.com

with all due respect, tracking 8 modules for a crippled mod player for free seems like a waste of time to me.

I might be interested. but i would need more technical information =o

for example, maximum length on all tracks?

and style of music ....

screens would be a very good art direction
for creating a soundtrack that fits the game.

Hello all!

Thanks for the replies with interest, I apologise for the delay in returning here.

Tried replying earlier but had lost what I wrote from not logging in.

I have been working on a new game mode while trying to find a composer =) so as requested, now there's an interest, I'll try and fill you in with more information:

The working title of the game is called "Hazard Ball", this is a game I am re-writing for the GBA I have already made the Windows version (see [url="www.hazardball.com"]Hazard Ball Website[url]. In the GBA version I have applied more details (such as squishy ball, mini map, etc) and it really suits the hand held because of the size of the sprites etc. The Windows version looks a bit basic but it does run amazing on the GBA.

I will update the site with the GBA version (with more screenies and videos of the game in action), hopefully very soon.

More about the music:

If prefferable, all mods can use the same sample bank - this also saves heaps of space on the ROM size.
Currently my mod player doesnt support fancy sample effects (like vibrato etc) so some mods sound very odd when played.
Style of music I leave up to composers - At the moment I'm using light dance style (listen to the music in the AVI video I will post soon - I even have permission to use that mod =) ! )
Length of music, theres no maximum length - just something that doesnt sound too repetative - say over a min before looping? I'm not sure so I can trust to leave that to the composer choice. The main levels can take anywhere from 2 mins to 30 mins to complete.
Infinate looped music is a must, I think it would seem odd if the music stopped and restarted during play.
The menu, intro and ending music can be much shorter (e.g. the time spent in a game menu isnt usually very long). I have a few real nice ending tunes that I think suits it very well.

A bit about the game modes:

Currently there are 3 game modes.
* Single player is the main game, with huge maps to navigate to the exit avoiding all the traps and using all items provided.
* 2 player uses link up only, with maps similar to single player mode but shorter. This mode is co-operative and allows team work for example one player can stay on a pressure pad while another one crosses a bridge that is formed from the pressure pad.
* Puzzle mode is a single player mode with loads of minimaps usually with a single puzzle to complete, some levels require skill others require thought.
* Soon there will be a new mode that makes use of a motion sensor allowing you to physically move the GBA to roll around (this device is still in development though).

Money:

How would someone want to go about this?
* Hourly rate? - How many hours does approx 1 .mod take to make? and how much (per hour) would sound fair?
* Percentage of sales? - This is a game I have been writing for over 2 years, but I'm hoping the music can be done fair quickly - therefore I wouldnt expect this to be worthwhile to a composer. anyway, what % would be expected?

I hope you understand by me not wanting to commit to anything at this moment with not knowing if the game will sell. The GBA is getting old quickly these days, maybe this could turn out to be a free project for our portfolios'.

or here is a suggestion, I could get free (existing?) music to use from willing authors to use only as placeholders and if the game is expected to sell I could then get back to requesting music with a solid offer.

So what are your thoughts?

Thanks for reading.

P.S.
I will reply with the link to the GBA homesite when it is up and running.
