Topic:  I want to create music!
* Posted by Houben Sunday 16 January 2005 - 13:54
Hi all! I've recently registered on and now I ask you something I always have been searching for: an excellent and easy music maker program. I've always wanted to have that easy program to add my melodies and work on them and have nice songs with a really good sound, not that MIDI sound. I've used tons of programs (my best of them was Midget). I tried with professional ones, like Reason and so... but I just don't know how to use them.
I've seen there's trakers and samples, which I don't know what are they and I don't know which is the best one to use.
I ask your advice of what program should I try or start for.

Thank you!

well.. there's lot of programmes coming from the great tracker "Fast Tracker II" & "Impulse Tracker".. those one running on pure MS DOS, it's better to switch to new generation of trackers. There's lot : Modplug Tracker, Renoise, Reason, Skale, Cheese Tracker, Mad Tracker. Those one are most coming from Fasttracker but including new performance (VST, VSTi,...) Globally you need to import samples (wav file for example) that will be your instruments (somes could also have proper generator). Then in the tracker you will PROGRAMME your tune... tracks are presented as an Excel sheet (rows by rows). Rows will most often cutted in 64 line representing a pattern.

Not far from this were arrive Buzz tracker that propose a mix of this schemas and and generator linked (each generator have his own tracker)...

There's also Fruity loops that propose intersting sounds but presented as classic midi sequencer (linear sequence)...

Hey Houben, hope you have found a tracker for
yourself now. ModPlug tracker looks fine to me,
but I don't create music at all (I'm a tone
deaf, damn it). Anyway, if you happen to create
some music, I might be able to buy it from you
for my game ;)
