| | Topic: | Interstaters going to Syntax 2009? | | | Hi All, just starting another Syntax thread with a narrower topic.. Different subthreads can get a bit messy :).
Just letting people know I'll be coming from Adelaide. Due to flight prices etc I've decided to come down a tad early (Thursday) and leaving on the Monday. Might give me time to work on my stick figure :)
It's the Melbourne cup weekend.. so if there's interstaters that are yet to buy flights/accomodation.. better get in quick.
I'll probably stay at either greenhouse backpackers or the new YHA on flinders. (going to book it any day now.. I've stayed at greenhouse a couple times before).
So if any interstaters, or locals want to catchup before syntax (Probably on the friday day/night ? ) speak up on the thread..
If enough people fly down early.. we could turn it into a couple day even just by association :).
Anyway just voicing up that i'm all booked and going.. Unfortunately Budweiser who was going to go this year can't make it now.. but he's going to lock it in for 2010.
Hopefully as the event gets closer we can swap a few contact details for catchups (mailling list may have been good).
| My tentative, half-arsed, planning has me there on the friday before syntax. I expect there to be some drinking at some point somewhere that night :)
I haven't booked any of it at all yet but if the melbourne cup is on then I might have to get organised sooner rather than later (damnit).
| Guys,
I'll be coming from Adelaide.
Got my hotel and plane tickets booked.
Will be arriving on the Friday at about lunch time and staying until Wednesday, so plenty of time to hang out.
Steve | | |
| | i really should book my accom/transport soon then, i guess. don't wanna miss out! | | |
| | what are you playing at, mr coupla blocks away ;) | | |
| | oh, i live in brisbane now | | |
| | I'm flying down from Sydney on the Thursday evening, and back on the Sunday. Hooray! Tiger Air were actually pretty cheap ($138 return). | | |
| Melbourne cup weekend. shit.
I'll book my flights tonight. I'm flying in on Thursday also for the same reason.
I'm staying at a mates place, but he will be in Canberra that weekend. So unless I can track down some drinking buddies, it'll be me sitting around scratching my ass for a couple of days before Syntax. ie. Count me in.

| Voltage: We are totally in on shin-an-igans on Saturday and Sunday at all hours of day... Friday until limited hours (considering setup time Sat morning!!!). I'm sure we'll have some of the NZ possie staying with us too (whome we'll give taxi details too) So do not stress - you will have buddies to party with :-)

(we meeting tonight to discuss Syntax = talking demo techniques for 5 hours and agreeing that we'll stick to planned venue..!!!)
| Whoop! Thanks cTrix.
Booked flights last night.
58 sleeps to go. Car-mon Syntax.
| Is there a particular hotel that people will be staying at?
I'll be arriving late on thursday night, and flying out sunday afternoon.
| | A few of us are at Hotel Enterprize. The biggest problem now is getting booked as it the cup weekend. | | |
| | damn, hotel enterprize is already booked out for the 31st. pain in the arse stupid horsie gambling wankers. FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU | | |
| I've booked into the "The Victoria Hotel Melbourne An All Seasons Hotel" at 215 little collins st - looks to be pretty close to the enterprize.
The cheapest rooms there are booked out from sunday onwards but still looks to be some available on the 31st itself.
| | yeah, this is where i am planning to stay for the sat night. booking when i get back from work. have to deal with qantas cancelling my 710$ in flight credit first tho. | | |
| I'm staying at greenhouse backpackers.
Got a single bed room. They're booked out on the sunday night too but I'm told that if I call them up they're not "Really" booked and they block it out for special events.
Most places are probably like that, if you call them up they may be able to squeeze out one more night for you.
I've stayed at greenhouse a couple times before.. I like the atmosphere of backpackers, and trying to keep the expenditure low.. (get free breakfasts and wifi there too :) $65/night. swipe access to floor and room..
Greenhouse is on flinders lane methinx.. not too far away from the venue.
A little bit before the event we should organise a place to meetup the thurs or fri night or daytime, swap some phone numbers etc.
Maybe it could be emailled out by the organisers when it gets really close.
| Hehe, damn you Conjuror. I only got Hotel Enterprize double single-bed room, the deluxe twins were booked.
Anyway, Vengeance and I are flying over from Tasmania, heaps of oldskool C64 sceners will be there, including some euros such as Bugjam, Reset and Doc Bacardi.
| | I was going to book that room as it was cheaper but I knew you weren't booked and you are sharing. Would have stuffed your booking. | | |
| any idea if the international vistors are just flying in/out from melbourne, or are they doing a tour of oz?
or to ask a different way, is it worth having a mini-meetup e.g. in sydney the weekend before or after the party?
| Who are the international visitors? If they are Sydney-bound I'd be happy to to get lost with them in the city.
For that matter I'd be keen to catch up before Syntax with any sceners in Syd.
| I've just pointed Bugjam and Doc Bacardi in the direction of this thread :-)
Edit: and Warlock of Amnesty is also another international who is coming.[Post edited by cTrix on Thursday 10 September 2009 - 18:53]
| | I'm in Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains, about 2 hrs west of sydney. The main recreational activites here are bushwalking and drinking. Anyone looking for a side trip is welcome to pop in for advice on where to perform the first activity, and assistance with performing the second. | | |
| Hey slack_ I'm at Doonside.
Send me a mail to voltage_123 [a@t] yahoo [dt] com
I'm a fan of both bush walking and drinking.
Let's catch up for at least the latter.
| | Any programming jobs in the Blue Mountains? think it would be a nice place to live as I do a lot of mountain biking. | | |
| Any programming jobs in the Blue Mountains?
none that I know of - I drive 170km round trip to get to work in western sydney
| My in-laws are in Woodford, and I'll be up there around xmas time. In the past I've stayed either in Katoomba or Blackheath.
Should catch up for a beer when I'm next up there ;)
| | It's awesome to see more Sydney crew making the trip. nf is from Sydney too - I'm also up in Syd about 4 times a year so may have to catch up with some of you after the party. :-) | | |
| Oh yeah; nf, I just read your post in the thread-chaos!!
There will be a Syntax mail out at the start of October with a party update :-] If anyone isn't getting the emails, please email the info addy at Syntax. Cheers.
| | If anyone is still sorting out accommodation in Melbourne then be sure to book it soon as Melbourne cup (horse race) is within the same time window as Syntax (on the Tuesday after I think). | | |
| Ill be coming from Sydney..
cant wait.. last party i attended was Assembly 2003 where i met shock and Ript..
See you all there...
