| Hi guys. I came across the keygen that comes with Orion's release of Nero 6.6.0.8
It's the one with Chuck Norris as the Texas Ranger on it haha. This is a rather new release, so I was wondering if anyone has the mod/xm file....or knows where to find it. =D

| I love the stuff by orion and such, so when I come across a keygen or something, I usually rip the music out. I'm hunting down that version right there and probably can send you the mod/xm soon.
EDIT: K, got the mod out. If you give me an email address or a server/channel to meet you on irc, I can get it to you.

| Ripping mods is normally not that difficult. The average keygen is compressed with a packer, and the mod file is usually a resource. It is just a matter of getting the file in it's decompressed form, and either using a resource extractor, or simply a hex editor, pulling out the appropriate file.
Of course there are more difficult ones. A certain tricky class installer seemed not to decompress, but actually had an embedded ace file. After realizing that, it was as easy as copying out the ace file, opening it, and extracting the three mod files right out.
Of course, a working keygen or cracktro is a huge bonus. If you can get it running, you can dump the process and get to work pulling out the mod. Some old class installers and cracks have been compressed with shrinker and do not execute under windows XP, even with compatibility. Luckily there is a de-shrink program that handles this without loading the process.
Then theres the keygen or cracktro or demo that doesn't appear to have a mod resource. And to complicate things, the file they used for the music has no credits in it, or is a standard xm or it file! There's no way to be guaranteed sure WHERE the music is located, its really a lot of guess work. I search in hex editors for the word 'extended' or 'module' and also look for the first four bytes of a typical it file. Sometimes its just a matter of looking for data inbetween large amounts of zeros, and recognizing that it looks similar to a mod or xm file.
If you can't extract a file, save it for later! The first few times I tried, i had a 10% success rate! It took me three times of trying to get all six songs out of a particular macromedia key generator. The first time resulted in a single song, the second five, and the third, finally all six!
I am still learning as you probably will be. And do realize sometimes you just can't rip the music with current tools. Processes won't dump right, unpackers dont work, and sometimes the release group was extra clever in using a trick that you don't notice at first, as was the case with that embedded ace file.

no greetings, no such tune on www.dualtrax.com .... what's that tune?
decompressed the .exe with memdump and found the .xm (search for "Extended Module")
the .xm is tagged as "GhidaPoP by Ghidorah"

| Heya, after going a google search I came here. My question isint how to extract music files out of keygens (although rather fortunate to know) It's where do they get that type of oldskool fast/screamtracker music from?
The last site I remember that offered good free music was www.traxinspace.com but now I don't know where that sort of music can be obtained from. Is there a site like scene.org (or demoscene.tv) but for the good old days of 8-bit music?

| Here is an fast and easy way to convert Tracker-Files (xm,it,mod etc..) to wav/mp3 :
1. Open the files you want to convert with winamp (www.winamp.com).
2. Open the Winamp Prefereces (Ctrl+P)
3. Select Plugins -> Output.
There select "Nullsoft Disk Writer plug-in"
Winamp will now dump the tracks in your playlist to your hdd.. (starting with the next item played)
4. When you press the "Configure"-Button you can specify the directory the music will be stored ( default is c:\ ) and the Format (-> MP3) which will be used (default is .wav)
I hope this little "Tutorial" will work for you.

| I am familiar, with the xmz mods in the keygens. I also am a fan of some of the music, but i am not sure on how or where they get this music. From certain information i read its not hard to conduct these type of songs. I have found a few pages that might be helpful to most.

I got 80 % of all tunes i like out of the keygens, most were easy just get of protecion, use PE Explorer to get those xm out..
And 1 with a hex editor..
But there's a protection i cant seem to get around every time, tElock...

| i'd like to add that a LOT of the music in keygens are used without permission from the authors.
i had a look at the file list of this keygen music pack. there are a bunch of old amiga mods in the pack, and i really don't think the keygen guys have taken the effort to track down the authors and ask for permission.
there's also a few of my tunes in there, and no one (from these particular groups) has ever asked me if it's ok to use them. i know this is a grey area in terms of copyrights and such, but it's just common courtesy within the scene. at least within the scene i'm in.
here's a message: if you're a lamer in a lame group, either get your own fucking musicians, or see if you can reach the author of the tune you're jacking off to. if you can't, don't fucking use the tune. it's that simple. | | |
| Yes many of new formed groups use the music's from old packages and collections because they just don't have an yet talented or any one to compose they're own one's.
Btw keygenmusic.net has made an rip guide for trackin music from keygens/cracks.
That will rip the _data_ not just the wave but all the notes/instruments/samples

| I really like Keygen tunes.
Lately I ran into a new RazorDOX one, for Armed Assault. Was probably one of the funnier keygens I've seen, and had incredible music to boot.
Can anyone help get that track? I can't find it or any resources, nor any particularly outstanding patterns.
I found a string, "cybernostra weekend" in what I thought was the module... but I still don't know where to start when it comes to ripping it out.
