*Intros the newest benchmarking hype?07 Jan 2004

While browsing the scene.org weblogs I found some interesting pages that linked to scene.org the past month:

Looks like intros are the newest benchmarking hype, so 3dMark has some competition now :) Anyhow, good to see people outside the demoscene are enjoying these cool prods too

*SceneID & discussion system04 Jan 2004

Today, a big step was made towards cooperation between demoscene portals: the introduction of SceneID. SceneID is a global userdatabase that is shared among websites! At the moment the only participants of this project are Pouet.net and Scene.org, but we hope this will grow in the future so we will have one SceneID shared with all demoscene portals. Many thanks go out to Melwyn for coming up with the idea and actually implementing it!

Note: If you already had a Pouet account, you will notice that this account has now been converted to a SceneID account, so if this is the case you can immediatly log in and use it.

Also this new year brings a cool new feature to the Scene.org site: a full discussion system which allows you to discuss the news items, polls and even files in the archive (look for the small [discuss] links)! The same system is also used in our new webforums, that can be used to get in touch with fellow sceners and exchange idea's and oppinions.

A happy new year to all of you from the entire Scene.org staff!

*ACiD turns 100!04 Jan 2004

Congratulations to ACiD for releasing their 100th artpack today! 2004 really started of with a bit bang it seems: 455MB of cool electronic art! You can download the big zipfile or go to the acid directory and download the pack in separate rar files.

On a sadder note the website says that ACiD-100 will be the final artpack of the group.. .. I'll miss you guys, because the first thing I remember when I dialed my first BBS back in the good ole days was a bitching ACiD ansi logo which opened the door to the demoscene for me! The best of luck to you guys!

*Scene.org Awards 2003 - Help Wanted10 Dec 2003
The annual Scene.org Awards will be held once again at the Breakpoint 2004 demoparty, taking place from 9th to 12th of April 2004 in Bingen, Germany. We're again awarding the best demos and demo artists, this time from year 2003. More details, list of the award categories and nominees will be published on 15th of February, 2004.

Now you can help us to make the event even better than before! We're looking for artists contributing in the following areas:
  • Awards gala opening video (video edited or realtime rendered show of 2-5 minutes).
  • Awards gala background videos (pre-edited video or realtime software for creating the backgrounds)
  • 2d designer / artist participating in creating general Awards related content and the website.
If you're not yet sure about volunteering, consider the following advantages for the people involved in making the Awards come true:
  • Chance to work with a motivated and talented team.
  • A free entrance to Breakpoint 2004 party and the Scene.org Awards gala (and the after-party :).
If you're interested in participating, you should send applications and inquiries at latest before 31st of December, 2003 to melwyn-AT-scene-DOT-org.
