 | Scene.org Awards 2005 winners | 17 Apr 2006 |
| | Hi and greetings from Breakpoint! The 4th Annual Scene.org Awards is now over, and we certainly had a blast with the show, both here in Bingen as well as through Demoscene.TV streaming at The Gathering.
Full list of the award winners can be seen here, after we travel back home and get some rest, more information including the jury commentary will follow. Until then! |

| Just to start a converstation:
I think the MFX Aether demo was the wrong choice for the best demo. It makes you think your computer is broken. Best demo should be Perfect Love by LKCC. It's got cool props to some awesome flicks and is just fun to watch --all the way through, I might add. And the love-hate angle is just classic.
Now for The Ballet Dancer which won Most Original Concept. That one should go to Don't Stop, by Portal Process. A robot mixin' it up, now that's what I'm talkin' about! But wait, that demo was in another category so can't be considered. Whatever. Talk about a stupid category, maybe if I put poo in a can of Bawls I'll win next year.
What's up with Best Graphics going to a platform that is 10+ years old? Plastic's
Final Audition has HDR and it is beaten by an Amiga? Talk about a slam. Is nothing sacred? Or how about Bauknecht's Trocken demo. There's a realistic water scene that even makes Half-Life 2 water look bad. "We don't care, we like Amiga! It ROXORs!"
Now for the 64k demo. Not to pick on Fairlight, but seriously, what is up with both of their demos? We have the same stuff, an obviously bored character walking through silly-looking curvy scenery. Sheesh. Brain Control's Memories from the MCP is much better. It's cool to watch and has cool music, not to mention a cool scene-change effect and the insert disk 2 gag. | | |
| | Opinions differ. As always, I think the jury did fairly good job with selecting the winners. If you're referring Aether to "think your computer is broken", I'd like to state that it was indeed broken in the Awards show as it doesn't work with ATI cards with drivers dated after 8/2005 - which again is not really our fault, try nagging the MFX people for a fixed version. | | |
| | Fair enough. Maybe after the jury commentary comes out I'll understand better why they voted how they did. I do admit I prefer the technical style demo to the esoteric art form demo, so maybe that explains some of my gripes. | | |
